Check Point and Nokia to Provide Internet Security Foundation for World's First Fully-Networked Interactive Community
Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX Integrated with Nokia IP Security Appliances, Enables Highly Scalable, Secure Communication for Helsinki Virtual Village
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., February 5, 2003 Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, and Nokia Internet Communications (NYSE:NOK), a leading provider of world-class Network Security, Virtual Private Network and Internet Traffic Management solutions, today announced that they have been chosen as the Internet security foundation for Helsinki Virtual Village - an innovative, fully-networked interactive community currently in development in the Finnish region of Arabianranta. More than 10,000 residents, 8,000 employees and 6,000 local university students will live in the community by 2010. Under recommendation from service provider Nordic LAN&WAN, Art and Design City Helsinki Oy Ab, the development company leading the Helsinki Virtual Village project, chose Check Point VPN-1®/FireWall-1® VSX running on clustered Nokia IP530 network security appliances as the ideal solution based on its award-winning superior security, efficient management capabilities and unique scalability.
The architecture of the site utilizes VLAN (Virtual LAN) technology and Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX, enabling one hundred virtual instances of VPN-1/FireWall-1 to run on single Nokia hardware platform. This enables:
- A private connection to the centralized firewall system for each apartment, company, and educational institution
- Individual company-specific firewalls
- A wireless WLAN (wireless local area network) for business parks and cafes in the vicinity
- Encryption between servers and laptops
- Fault tolerance and the ability to perform load level management and centralized administration
"The creation of a controlled and secure environment that scales for future needs is one of the biggest challenges we faced in creating Helsinki Virtual Village," said Kari Raina, Managing Director of Art and Design City Helsinki Oy Ab. "Through the reseller, Nordic LAN&WAN, Check Point and Nokia have exceeded all of our technical requirements and given us the confidence that we are implementing market-leading Internet security solutions for the customers, residents and businesses of Arabianranta."
Ernie Jones, Vice President of Sales, Europe Middle East Africa, Nokia Internet Communications, adds, "Being part of such an inspiring new project is synonymous with Nokia's vision for the future. Our extensive range of solutions, along with our best-of-breed partners such as Check Point, offers the uncompromising security, scalability and reliability to meet the existing and future needs of our customers."
