Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1
VSX Integrated with Nokia IP Security Appliances, Enables Highly
Scalable, Secure Communication for Helsinki Virtual Village
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., and MOUNTAIN VIEW,
Calif., February 5, 2003 Check Point Software Technologies
Ltd. (Nasdaq:CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet,
and Nokia Internet Communications (NYSE:NOK), a leading provider
of world-class Network Security, Virtual Private Network and Internet
Traffic Management solutions, today announced that they have been
chosen as the Internet security foundation for Helsinki Virtual
Village - an innovative, fully-networked interactive community currently
in development in the Finnish region of Arabianranta. More than
10,000 residents, 8,000 employees and 6,000 local university students
will live in the community by 2010. Under recommendation from service
provider Nordic LAN&WAN, Art and Design City Helsinki Oy Ab,
the development company leading the Helsinki Virtual Village project,
chose Check Point VPN-1®/FireWall-1® VSX running
on clustered Nokia IP530 network security appliances as the ideal
solution based on its award-winning superior security, efficient
management capabilities and unique scalability.
The architecture of the site utilizes VLAN (Virtual LAN) technology
and Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX, enabling one hundred virtual
instances of VPN-1/FireWall-1 to run on single Nokia hardware platform.
This enables:
- A private connection to the centralized firewall system for
each apartment, company, and educational institution
- Individual company-specific firewalls
- A wireless WLAN (wireless local area network) for business parks
and cafes in the vicinity
- Encryption between servers and laptops
- Fault tolerance and the ability to perform load level management
and centralized administration
"The creation of a controlled and secure environment that
scales for future needs is one of the biggest challenges we faced
in creating Helsinki Virtual Village," said Kari Raina, Managing
Director of Art and Design City Helsinki Oy Ab. "Through the
reseller, Nordic LAN&WAN, Check Point and Nokia have exceeded
all of our technical requirements and given us the confidence that
we are implementing market-leading Internet security solutions for
the customers, residents and businesses of Arabianranta."
Ernie Jones, Vice President of Sales, Europe Middle East Africa,
Nokia Internet Communications, adds, "Being part of such an
inspiring new project is synonymous with Nokia's vision for the
future. Our extensive range of solutions, along with our best-of-breed
partners such as Check Point, offers the uncompromising security,
scalability and reliability to meet the existing and future needs
of our customers."
About the Check Point/Nokia Solution
Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX is a carrier-class multi-policy
Internet security solution for service providers and corporate data
centers. Through software virtualization and the utilization of
VLAN technology, VPN-1/FireWall-1 VSX scales Check Point's market-leading
VPN-1/FireWall-1 to create up to 250 separate virtual systems on
a single hardware platform. This virtualization and scalability
lowers the hardware investment required to deliver security, in
addition to reducing time and effort to provision separate security
policies.
The Nokia IP530 platform is designed for enterprise customers who
require the highest level of throughput without compromising security.
It is pre-configured and tested for rapid deployment, supports a
comprehensive suite of IP routing protocols, and is backed by Nokia's
world class "First Call - Final Resolution" global service
and support. In addition, the Nokia IP530 comes equipped with Nokia
Network Voyager, a simple and intuitive browser-based remote management
interface supported by Nokia Horizon Manager, Nokia's secure software
image management tool.
"Helsinki Virtual Village exemplifies all of the real-world
security needs that can be found on a global scale," said Carol
Stone, vice president of marketing, Check Point Software Technologies.
