Check Point Internet Security Solutions Enable University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to Make the Grade

Check Point's VPN-1 Pro and FloodGate-1 Secure and Manage Internet Traffic and Deliver Significant Cost Savings

Redwood City, Calif. - June 16, 2003 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UW-Green Bay) has deployed a complete security and Internet connectivity solution and saved more than $130,000 annually using Check Point's VPN-1® Pro™ and FloodGate-1® solutions.

UW-Green Bay's network serves more than 6,750 students and staff through 3,000 on-campus workstations and provides 155 megabits of bandwidth to the Internet. With a technology infrastructure and network access capabilities similar to a large enterprise, UW-Green Bay faced the challenge of providing an open academic environment while securing their network from internal and external attacks. Additionally, the university required that network bandwidth was properly prioritized to ensure that important academic traffic received priority over bandwidth-hungry "social" traffic such as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications including instant messenger (IM), online games and music downloads.

UW-Green Bay turned to Check Point for the following best-in-class Internet security solutions:

  • VPN-1 Pro - Secures traffic and communications to and from UW-Green Bay's network through an integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) solution. Implementing a Check Point VPN solution has significantly reduced telecommunications costs for the university.
  • FloodGate-1 - Allows UW-Green Bay's network administrators to prioritize classes of traffic on the university's network so that critical traffic like e-mail receives priority over non-critical P2P traffic. Managing bandwidth with FloodGate-1 has saved the university more than $80,000 in the first year alone.

"Check Point provides us with a comprehensive security and Internet communications solution that integrates easily with our IT environment, is scalable to accommodate future requirements and delivers a significant return on investment," said David Kieper, networks and infrastructure manager for UW-Green Bay. "We're confident that with Check Point in place, our campus can consistently stay in front of emerging security issues."

"We are pleased to see that Check Point's industry-leading solutions are enabling UW-Green Bay to reap the benefits of a manageable, scalable and cost-effective security infrastructure," said Carol Stone, vice president of marketing for Check Point Software Technologies. "By leveraging VPN-1 Pro to provide secure end-to-end communications and FloodGate-1 to accelerate the performance of critical traffic on the network, the university resolved their security challenges and can rest assured that their network integrity will remain protected from emerging security threats."
