Check Point Performance Innovation and Leadership Recognized with Patent for Secure XL Technology

Company Revolutionizes Acceleration Solutions for Internet Security

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - February 19, 2003 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded it Patent Number 6,496,935, issued for Check Point's SecureXL™ technology which enables a 10-fold increase in VPN/security performance. The issuance of this patent highlights Check Point's technological innovation and performance superiority, and is yet another proof point of the company's industry leadership.

Check Point's SecureXL™ is a software interface that enables Check Point to leverage technologies from multiple silicon, appliance and computer system partners to accelerate the performance of firewall and VPN gateways by off-loading simple, though computationally intensive functions to third-party packet processors. Devices utilizing the SecureXL technology meet customer needs by delivering multi-gigabit performance levels, in multiple form factors, at a variety of price points while dramatically improving performance in real-world traffic conditions.

"Technology leadership is clearly one of Check Point's core competencies -- whether we measure this by patent numbers, technology firsts or customer satisfaction," said Gonen Fink, vice president, solutions and strategies for Check Point Software Technologies. "Adding this SecureXL patent strengthens Check Point's patent portfolio and further demonstrates our leadership in Internet security innovation."

Check Point's performance leadership and innovative solutions are validated through:

  • Independent tests by Tolly Group demonstrate that Check Point solutions deliver 5 times the performance at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions
  • Check Point Performance Pack™ accelerates the performance of the company's security products by a factor of 2-4 times and enables standard PC servers to achieve speeds well over 3.2 Gbps
  • "Secured by Check Point" platform partners leveraging SecureXL technology to achieve unparalleled gigabit speeds:
    • Nokia IP740 achieves 2.0 Gbps FireWall-1® throughput
    • Nortel Networks Alteon Switched Firewall (ASF) 5710 offers 4.2 Gbps FireWall-1 throughput
    • RapidStream 11000 Appliance delivers up to 1.2 Gbps VPN-1® 3DES throughput and up to 2.0 Gbps FireWall-1 throughput
    • Bivio 1000-CP delivers 1.6 Gbps small packet FireWall-1 throughput

A Decade of Innovation
Beginning a tradition of innovation in 1993, Check Point invented and patented Stateful Inspection technology, which allows a network administrator to track a user's efforts to pass through firewall security perimeters. Check Point's implementation of Stateful Inspection forever changed the landscape of Internet security, prevailing over other firewall technologies such as packet filtering and proxies. To this day Stateful Inspection remains the industry's most imitated security technology.

The award of U.S. patent Number 6,496,935, entitled "system, device and method for rapid packet filtering and processing" to Check Point Secure XL recognizes Check Point's innovation in revolutionizing VPN and firewall performance to meet the bandwidth-intensive needs of customers today and into the future.
