Cellcom Calls Check Point to Secure Wireless Networks

Leading Israeli Cellular Operator Uses Check Point FireWall-1 GX to Protect Consumer and Corporate GPRS Networks

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - March 22, 2004 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that Cellcom, the largest cellular operator in Israel, has successfully implemented Check Point FireWall-1® GX™ to provide its more than 2.5 million business and consumer customers with the highest level of security and up-time in its cellular networks. Check Point also today announced that the company is achieving further traction in the cellular security market (see related release).

Internet attacks have become increasingly prominent within wireless networks, and Cellcom realized they needed a comprehensive security solution to protect against both IP and GPRS attacks. They chose to implement Check Point FireWall-1 GX because it combats both malicious and fraudulent attacks, and is able to intelligently detect when connections are opened and terminated. This significantly reduces the probability of over-billing attacks, which take advantage of open connections to flood the network with unwanted traffic. Additionally, Cellcom is now secured from other common security attacks such as DNS or IP spoofing that that can lead to restricted service and fraudulent use of the network.

"What we needed was the most comprehensive security solution that covered our GPRS and IP needs under one common architecture," said Tzvi Shechori, Vice President, Research and Technology at Cellcom. "We have enjoyed a close collaboration with Check Point to ensure that our security solution is world-class, future-proofed and provides us with the lowest total cost of ownership."

"Cellcom's wide spectrum of services presented security challenges that were resolved with Check Point's leading FireWall-1 GX technology, and we are delighted that their customers can benefit from maximum up-time," said David Aminzade, EMEA Sales Manger, Wireless and Broadband for Check Point Software Technologies. "Cellcom is the first cellular operator serving the Israeli market to implement a comprehensive security architecture capable of countering IP-based attacks on both its GPRS or UMTS networks."
