Check Point Software Dramatically Outperforms Cisco and Juniper in Real-World Tests

Check Point Proactively Protects Against 100% of Common Application-Level Attacks Tested; Provides Customers with Best Return on Investment

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., - February 23, 2005 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that recent independent tests conducted by The Tolly Group confirm that Check Point provides the broadest breadth of coverage and the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for today's complex security vulnerabilities in comparison to Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR). Check Point's VPN-1® Next Generation™ (NG) Series perimeter security gateway protects against 100 percent of the common application-level attacks tested, while the PIX 515E from Cisco and the NetScreen-204 from Juniper Networks only provide protection for six percent of application-level attacks tested. The complete testing results can be found at http://www.checkpoint.com/products/home_promo/tolly_2005.html.

"With today's dynamic attacks targeted at applications, customers require a comprehensive security solution that delivers virtual private network, firewall and intrusion protection capabilities to protect their networks from a variety of attacks including Denial of Service, illegitimate access to servers or clients and theft of user IDs and passwords," said Kevin Tolly, president/CEO of The Tolly Group. "Testing shows that Check Point offers that in a single solution, while rival products tested steer users to a second box to achieve equal intrusion protection."

The Check Point, Cisco and Juniper security solutions went through 17 rigorous tests that exposed them to a variety of application-level exploits including SSL, SQL and HTTP-based vulnerabilities. Tests demonstrated that while Cisco's and Juniper's solutions are response-based, meaning that they rely on pre-defined signatures to defeat attacks, Check Point's solution is proactive, protecting the network against attacks before they even occur. In addition, The Tolly Group test findings concluded that Check Point leads in the following areas:

  • In-Depth Security Protection - Through its unique protocol-level inspection capabilities, Check Point offers greater depth of protection in comparison to Cisco and Juniper.
  • Application-Level Protection - Check Point provides application-level security for a greater number of protocols including SQL, HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS, IPSec, BGP, OSPF, and RIP.
  • Comprehensive Security - Unlike Cisco and Juniper, Check Point offers integrated IPS, firewall and VPN capabilities in a single device.
  • Low TCO - Check Point offers a 70% to 125% TCO advantage over Juniper's and Cisco's perimeter security solution.

"The competitive solutions tested from Cisco and Juniper require more than one product to provide adequate perimeter security defenses which, in turn, increases costs and intensifies management complexities for customers," said Carol Stone, vice president, worldwide marketing for Check Point Software Technologies. "Check Point's VPN-1 NG Series perimeter security gateways offer customers the lowest TCO – they only need to spend money on one solution, and they get all the security and management capabilities they need."
