Los Angeles County Selects Check Point for Data Security

Sensitive information on county laptops and other portable devices protected with leading encryption technologies

Redwood City, CA —

Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced Los Angeles County, the largest county in the nation, selected Check Point data security solutions  to encrypt and fully secure data residing on all laptops and other portable devices across 38 county departments. After a comprehensive evaluation of competing products and thorough proof-of–concept testing, L.A. County selected Pointsec® products for the speed of deployment, ease of use and strong encryption features they provided.

With the theft of PCs on the rise and an increasingly mobile workforce, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors recognized the need to protect information residing on county departments' laptops, other portable computing devices and removable media. Through The Vantage Group, L.A. County purchased in excess of 12,500 seats of Pointsec PC®, received over 100 hours of Quick-Start consulting and options on Pointsec Protector®.

"We take securing our networks and PCs very seriously," said Al Brusewitz, L.A. County's Chief Information Security Officer." As a result, we really put the Check Point products through the ‘ringer' in our testing to ensure they could deliver as promised and we were impressed. The Pointsec products were quick to configure and deploy and required very little administration bandwidth from our IT team. Strong encryption is good, but executing it at the lowest operational cost and minimal impact to county employees was a key attribute. With these solutions in place, I'm comfortable that should a laptop fall into the wrong hands, all data on the device will remain protected."

"We've seen a growing number of counties and municipalities that recognize the importance of securing sensitive customer and employee data to steer clear of public data breaches and meet strict compliance requirements," said David Vergara, product marketing director of data security at Check Point. "We're very pleased L.A. County selected Check Point products as part of its county-wide endpoint encryption solution."

Check Point data security products are the most-widely deployed data protection solutions today because they are quick and simple to deploy, scale to any size organization, proven in every type of industry and government agency around the world and support the broadest set of mobile platforms.  Check Point solutions completely protect data on laptops, desktops, PDAs, smartphones, USB drives, and other removable media by combining strong encryption with access control.  This ensures all data remains protected, regulatory requirements are addressed and company image stays intact.
