Check Point and Tel-Aviv University to Establish a New Academic Research Institute for the Study of Information Security

Check Point and Tel- Aviv University will invest approximately $1 million to promote research into information security

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 24, 2008 – Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that Check Point and Tel-Aviv University (TAU) joined forces in the establishment of an information security research institute. The institute, under the auspices of the School of Computer Science at TAU, will be managed by a joint board, with representatives and financing from both Check Point and the university. The set-up investment is estimated at approximately $1 million dollars.

According to the agreement, finalized last week, most of the financing will go towards research grants for students and doctoral candidates, as well as the establishment of research labs in the field of information security. Prof. Ran Canetti, a researcher at IBM Laboratories and a lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, will manage the institute. The new research institute will facilitate the financing of dozens of academic research studies in various fields of information security. In addition, it will enable the establishment of a cutting edge research lab, and the institute will hold academic conferences hosting leading experts from all over the world.

"Israel has an extensive and thriving information security industry, and its strength is reflected, among other things, in the academia," said Dr. Dorit Dor, Vice President of Products at Check Point. "Our main goal in establishing the institute is to promote academic, professional and applied research in information security and to encourage students to join-in and study this exciting, innovative and dynamic discipline."

President of Tel-Aviv University, Prof. Zvi Galil, said that by establishing the institute, Check Point will support the qualification of a future generation in information security. Prof. Galil saluted Check Point for its contribution to the information security, especially, he said, while many higher education institutions are experiencing a growing budget distress and the number of academic staff at the universities constantly decreases.

Prof. Amos Fiat, head of School of Computer Science at Tel-Aviv University, said that Israel's scientific, financial, cultural and social strength depends, to a large extent, on the quality and skills of its school graduates. "The School of Computer Science at Tel-Aviv University trains some 900 undergraduates and 300 graduates, and has about 35 academic staff members. Admission requirements are extremely high and our students are highly capable, therefore our main role is to grant them the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills," sums up Prof. Fiat.
