ViruSafe Firewall to Integrate into Check Point's OPSEC Enterprise Security Architecture

February 17, 1997 -- EliaShim Ltd. today announced that it has integrated its ViruSafe Firewall anti-virus product into Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.'s (NASDAQ: CHKPF) FireWall-1 enterprise security solution. Using Check Point's Content Vectoring Protocol (CVP) within the Open Platform for Enterprise Connectivity (OPSEC) framework, customers will be able to use EliaShim's ViruSafe Firewall in conjunction with Check Point FireWall-1 to provide integrated, enterprise-wide protection against viruses at the Internet gateway.

ViruSafe Firewall incorporates unique anti-virus features including EliaShim's proprietary SmartScan(tm) technology which provides constant, on-line protection against known and unknown virus attacks and suspicious activities at the user level. In addition, ViruSafe provides protection against hostile Java applets and Active-X objects.

Check Point Software's Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity (OPSEC) is a single platform that integrates and manages all aspects of enterprise security through an open, extensible management framework, using a combination of published application programming interfaces (APIs), support for industry-standard protocols and a high-level scripting language. ViruSafe Firewall allows anti-virus protection to be integrated at the Internet gateway level and provides the organization with a comprehensive security package combining the TCP/IP filtering of the firewall with protection against any mail, macro or file viruses. This guarantees protection against the various virus types common on the Internet. Unlike other anti-virus gateways, ViruSafe Firewall runs on an external server, and eliminates the need for embedding the anti-virus component into the gateway application. ViruSafe Firewall runs on NT servers and will be available for all existing and future NT-based FireWall-1 customers when FireWall-1 3.0 ships.

ViruSafe Firewall is compatible with UNIX and NT-based FireWall-1 software. Incoming communications are transmitted from the firewall to the ViruSafe Firewall via TCP/IP, where they are sorted according to SMTP, FTP and HTTP transfer protocols, and are scanned by ViruSafe's advanced detection system for viruses. They are then returned to the firewall with a GO/NO GO flag, according to the results of the scanning process.
