Trend Micro Ships Virus Scannning and Spam Blocking Solution on Windows NT for Check Point's FireWall-1

OPSEC certified InterScan VirusWall with eManager seamlessly integrated for ease of installation, administration

Cupertino, Calif.— December 21, 1998 - Trend Micro Inc., the leader in centrally managed virus protection, today announced that its Internet gateway virus scanning and optional e-mail content-filtering solution for Windows NT, InterScan VirusWall 3.1 with eManager, has been OPSEC™ Certified by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKPF). InterScan VirusWall with eManager provides a combined anti-virus/content security solution for Check Point™ FireWall-1 that can be installed on and managed from a single CVP (content vectoring protocol) server.

With this announcement, Trend Micro provides the industry's first OPSEC-Certified virus scanning solution on multiple platforms. In August of this year, Trend shipped an OPSEC Certified virus scanning solution for FireWall-1 on the Solaris Platform, InterScan VirusWall 2.6.

‘‘Integrated border security is a necessity now that hackers are using mixed attacks which combine e-mail spamming, viruses, and malicious mobile content to penetrate the network," said Eva Chen, CTO and executive vice president of Trend Micro. "By partnering with other best-of-breed security providers like Check Point, Trend Micro is able to quickly deliver high performance, interoperable solutions that are tested and certified to work together and provide enhanced protection against mixed attacks."

"Our customers are demanding choice in platform, as well as the breadth of solutions provided by OPSEC, and clearly Trend Micro is meeting this demand with InterScan VirusWall for Check Point FireWall-1," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and business development for Check Point Software Technologies, Inc.

OPSEC (Open Platform for Secure Enterprise Connectivity) Certified status is granted only to solutions that have undergone rigorous testing by Check Point Software. The certification ensures that InterScan VirusWall and FireWall-1 operate together for seamless administration and operation and central policy-based management. InterScan VirusWall is closely integrated with FireWall-1 using the CVP API (application programming interface) to keep viruses, malicious Java applets and ActiveX programs from entering networks via e-mail, Internet downloads and FTP file transfers. The optional eManager plug-in to InterScan adds the ability to block spam, filter e-mail content and manage the delivery of large e-mails to the enterprise.
