Nokia Chosen to Secure TI Automotive's Corporate Network in Europe and Asia Pacific
Leading automotive supplier installs Nokia IP and VPN network security platforms to protect and expand data network and reduce corporate network security costsESPOO, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2002 -- TI Automotive, a leading supplier of brake, fuel and air-conditioning systems for the automotive industry, is successfully deploying security solutions from Nokia and its global partner Check Point Software Technologies (Nasdaq: CHKP - News) including: virtual private networks (VPN) and Internet firewalls to securely link and protect over 40 manufacturing and business centres across Europe. This solution has contributed to a reduction in the company's network costs by 60% and a quadrupled increase in the company's data bandwidth capacity. TI Automotive supplies over half the world's car production every year, and it counts General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Renault and Fiat amongst its major clients. TI Automotive required a secure and flexible Internet-based network for its data, and chose hardware VPN technology from Nokia to connect its sites over a secure VPN. All external traffic is routed out through one of the five standard firewalls running on the Nokia IP300 Series appliances. Peter Stewart, TI Automotive business systems director, Europe, comments, "We required secure, robust and scaleable network solutions which were also cost effective at the same time. We also needed a solutionwhich we could manage internally, and which allowed us to rapidly integrate existing and new sites. Nokia's successful formula has been implemented across Europe and will expand to Asia Pacific during the second half of 2002." Nokia

The system also allows TI Automotive to securely connect to its customers' networks, including their extranets where appropriate, and to enable efficient and cost-effective file exchanges in formats such as CAD (computer aided design). The Nokia appliances support a 2Mbps backbone with local connections providing individual site connections of between 2Mbps and 256kbps depending on traffic needs. "TI Automotive's evaluation and selection process required leading edge technology which Nokia was able to meet. Nokia is committed to customer satisfaction and are proud to have provided a substantial return on investment. We look forward to a continuing relationship with TI Automotive," says Ernie Jones, Nokia Internet Communications vice president of sales, Europe, Middle East & Africa. About
