OMNICLUSTER'S SLOTSHIELD SECURITY APPLIANCE BLADE NAMED FINALIST IN LINUXWORLD'S OPEN SOURCE PRODUCT EXCELLENCE AWARDS PROGRAM

OmniCluster's PCI-based SlotShield server appliance blade solution integrates Check Point Software's market-leading VPN-1®/ FireWall-1® Next Generation software.

BOCA RATON, FL -- (August 9, 2002) OmniCluster Technologies, the leader in PCI appliance blades, today announced that its SlotShield security appliance blade has been chosen as a finalist for LinuxWorld's Open Source Product Excellence Awards in the Best Security Solution category. SlotShield appliance blades integrate Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation, the industry's most comprehensive security solution for protecting and connecting companies of all sizes. The integrated solution offers superior security and scalability, and can be ordered today.

Additionally, combining other products like SNORT (IDS), LVS, and Honey Pot functions on additional cards, within the same platform, gives the flexibility associated with Appliances, but now implemented on a PCI Appliance Blade. Communication between blades occurs as Ethernet-over-PCI and the storage can be centralized on the host's RAID and leverage the SAN-over-PCI communication path.

The winner will be announced at the event to be held August 12-15 at San Francisco's Moscone Center. The Open Source Product Excellence Awards will be presented on the show floor at Booth #1447 on Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. The Linux World Conference & Expo is the premier event exclusively focused on Linux and Open Source solutions. Presented in conjunction with the UniForum Association, the Open Source Product Excellence Awards will recognize Open Source product and service innovations offered by some of the world's leading ISVs, OEMs, service providers and developers.

Check Point's market-leading VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation software integrated with OmniCluster's PCI-based SlotShield server appliance blade solution allows for two different and distinctive breakthrough security implementations:
  • Securing individual servers with zero infrastructure impact
  • Securing enterprise networks with a consolidated security server
The first implementation allows for an individual server to be secured by VPN-1/FireWall-1 through existing hardware infrastructure. The second implementation enables integrated multi-application security solutions, allowing VPN-1/FireWall-1 to run in parallel with OPSEC-certified applications within a single server chassis using different operating systems. SlotShield appliances have undergone a rigorous testing process to be certified as "Secured by Check Point", and can be used in conjunction with Check Point market-leading security technologies.

"Our product represents a unique solution during a time when security is of the utmost importance." said Sterling Wharton, CEO of OmniCluster Technologies. "By integrating Check Point's market-leading software, we are offering the market an efficient, easy-to-install security device that is gaining worldwide acceptance."

"We are pleased to see OmniCluster's SlotShield appliances integrating Check Point's market-leading VPN-1/FireWall-1 nominated for Best Security Solution by LinuxWorld," said Asheem Chandna, vice president of business development and product management for Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP).
