Proxim Harmony Wireless LANs Receive OPSEC Certification From Check Point

Harmony 802.11a and 802.11b Products Certified Interoperable With Check Point's VPN

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 19, 2002 -- Proxim Corporation (Nasdaq: PROX - News) today announced that its Harmony 802.11a and 802.11b products have received OPSEC™ (Open Platform for Security) Certification from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP - News), a worldwide leader in securing the Internet. OPSEC Certification ensures that Proxim Harmony integrates seamlessly with Check Point's VPN-1, which, combined with Harmony's VPN tunneling capabilities, provides customers with a simple way to add another layer of security to their wireless LAN.

In addition, Proxim Harmony offers features such as dynamic re-keying through IEEE 802.1x and Harmony Key Management, providing customers with a range of security options to fit their individual infrastructure and security policies. Proxim was the first to announce support for 802.1x in its Harmony 802.11a products in March 2002.

"Enterprises are very concerned with the security of their wireless LAN, and VPNs are a very effective solution. Plus, enterprises are likely to be comfortable with VPNs, since they are widely used today," said Lynn Lucas, director of marketing for Proxim. "We're pleased that Check Point has taken the lead to assure customers that the Check Point VPN will work with wireless LANs such as Harmony."

OPSEC Certification complements Harmony's existing VPN tunneling feature, which simplifies the deployment of a VPN with a wireless network. Harmony's VPN tunneling feature enables a customer to leverage their existing VPN and maintain a simple authentication methodology. OPSEC Certification provides a guarantee that Harmony interoperates with Check Point's VPN-1.

"Maintaining the security and integrity of data over their wireless networks is a critical issue for customers," said Upesh Patel, Manager of the OPSEC Alliance for Check Point Software Technologies. "OPSEC Certification assures that Proxim's Harmony wireless LAN products interoperate seamlessly with Check Point's industry-leading VPN-1 providing the necessary security for their wireless network."

Harmony is a secure and flexible enterprise wireless networking solution, with support for all leading wireless standards. Harmony lets enterprises deploy both IEEE 802.11b and high-speed 802.11a wireless networks simultaneously, and Proxim Harmony 802.11a products offer speeds up to 54 Mbps in 802.11a mode and up to 100 Mbps in 2X mode. For enterprise customers implementing a wireless LAN, Harmony's unique multi-standard architecture reduces equipment acquisition costs, installation complexity and long-term operating costs by providing auto-installation of access points, centralizing network management, and supporting built-in roaming across subnets.
