Sun Delivers Industry-First iForce(SM) Integrated Security Solution to Enhance Internet Security

Green Bay Packers benefit from Network Security Collaboration from Sun and Leading iForce Security Partners -- Check Point, Recourse Technologies, TrendMicro and Tripwire

RSA CONFERENCE, Booth #531, SAN JOSE, CALIF.--February 19, 2002-- Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced the iForce[SM] Integrated Security Solution to help deploy perimeter defense security for enterprises and service providers wanting to offer hosted security services to their customers. Integrating applications from both iForce and SunTone[SM] Partners including Check Point Software TechnologiesT, Recourse TechnologiesT, Trend Micro and Tripwire, this solution provides increased prevention and detection, improved capture systems and faster response to all types of security threats. This offering, which has already been adopted by customers such as the Green Bay Packers, marks the first time five industry-leading companies have come together to build, market and deliver an integrated security solution.

"For the Green Bay Packers, defense and security are critical on the field, but even more important on the Internet," said Wayne Wichlacz, Green Bay Packers. "The iForce Integrated Security Solution from Sun and its best-in-class partners provides our fans with the strictest levels of prevention, detection and response to security threats. When tackling security for our Web sites, we turn to Sun."

"Security is at the forefront of our customers' priorities right now and they are increasingly looking for integrated instead of point-security solutions," said Joe Akers, director of Sun's Industry Solutions Group. "We have worked with our iForce Partners, SunTone Certified Partners and Check Point's OPSEC alliance to create an integrated approach to help our customers reduce risk while addressing their security needs. The iForce Integrated Security Solution helps companies protect their critical resources while decreasing costs."

The multi-layer security solution, coupled with the robust Solaris™ Operating Environment [OE] and Sun™ hardware, helps enterprises and service providers detect harmful intrusions, prevent unauthorized access to data and to capture hackers or uninvited users before critical business communications are impacted. The security solution forms a resilient barrier to unauthorized intrusions and attacks by combining six layers of defense including a hardened operating environment, VPN/firewall, integrity assurance, virus detection, intrusion detection and a decoy system. These elements enhance existing security solutions across the Internet data center, enterprise or any large scale network environment.

Sun, Check Point, Recourse, Trend Micro and Tripwire each contributed their expertise to create the iForce Integrated Security Solution:

  • Sun Microsystems's rack-optimized entry-level servers coupled with the Solaris 8 OE and the Solaris Security Toolkit provide unsurpassed reliability and scalability. The Toolkit provides a flexible and extensible mechanism to minimize, harden and secure Solaris OE systems. Sun is also the overall project lead.
  • Check Point Software Technologies is the worldwide leader in securing the Internet and the confirmed market leader of both the worldwide VPN and firewall markets. Check Point's VPN-1® /FireWall-1® protects the privacy of business communications over the Internet while securing critical network resources against unauthorized access.
  • Recourse Technologies provides a comprehensive threat management solution for advanced intrusion detection. ManHunt™ detects, analyzes, and responds to malicious computer attacks including intrusions, internal hacking and denial of service (DOS) attacks in real time. ManTrap®, based on honeypot technology, offers a realistic and flexible network environment which provides an advanced warning system to identify known and unknown internal and external security threats.
  • Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall scans email, Web traffic, and file transfers at the Internet gateway. InterScan VirusWall protects the enterprise and helps reduce the overall cost of antivirus ownership by preventing the internal spread of viruses.
  • Tripwire's Tripwire for Servers and Tripwire for Routers and Switches products ensure the integrity of data and establish an essential foundation for a secure network infrastructure. Tripwire's software takes a snapshot of configuration data in its desired state and monitors to detect changes. If changes occur, the administrator is notified and Tripwire provides details so that damage assessment and recovery can happen in minutes.

These best-of-breed elements interoperate through integration with Check Point's Open Platform for Security™ (OPSEC) framework to deliver world-class security across the Internet data center, enterprise or any large scale network environment.

Sun, Check Point, Recourse, Trend Micro and Tripwire are certified members of the SunTone Certification and Branding program. As SunTone Certified Partners, the companies support the objectives of the SunTone program, which assists companies in providing Web-based services and applications that are secure, reliable and available. All companies are highly interested in obtaining SunTone Platform Certification. SunTone Platforms, aimed at both enterprises and service providers, are a suite of pre-assembled, pre-integrated, pre-tested solutions that are designed to help solve IT companies' challenges and allow faster time to market.
