Network Associates McAfee(R) VirusScan Enterprise Integrates with Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient for Enhanced Functionality

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 Integrates with Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient To Offer Added Protection From Malicious Code

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 20 - Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET - News), the leading provider of intrusion prevention solutions, today announced that McAfee® VirusScan® Enterprise 7.1 has passed OPSEC™ (Open Platform for Security) certification to provide seamless integration with Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP - News) VPN-1® SecureClient, its centrally-managed personal firewall. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise users running Check Point VPN-1 will now have the ability to perform Check Point Secure Configuration Verification (SCV) checks, a feature that helps to ensure that only securely configured systems are connected to the corporate virtual private network (VPN). This feature will provide medium to large businesses with greater control over their environment and enhanced protection against viruses, worms and Trojans.

"The integration between Network Associates® McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 and Check Point's market-leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® next generation Internet security platform will give customers a greater level of assurance that they are taking the necessary steps to protect their business against malicious threats," said Upesh Patel, director of business development for Check Point Software Technologies. "IT managers using both technologies can now benefit from SCV Checks, which ensures that the most current version of McAfee anti-virus and browser software is installed before their client connects to the corporate VPN. This will help administrators gain greater control over their security environment and prevent lost resources that are associated with malicious threats such as Lovsan/Blaster and Sobig.f."

VPN-1 SecureClient provides the basic user authentication and encryption capabilities of VPN-1 SecuRemote, plus additional features, such as powerful SCV. When installed and enabled, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise users can configure their Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient with SCV Checks, a set of conditions that define a securely configured client system, to prevent clients with out of date anti-virus protection from accessing the corporate network through the VPN.

"We are committed to ensuring that our best-of-breed products and technologies are designed to enhance Internet and intranet computing in today's corporations by seamlessly integrating with a multi-vendor security framework," said Robin Matlock, vice president of product marketing for Network Associates McAfee System Protection Solutions Group. "McAfee VirusScan integration with Check Point VPN-1 SecureClient will prevent client machines from being configured in a way that circumvents the enterprise security policy with user specified 'checks,' helping to ensure that the latest software and browsers are connected to the corporate VPN. This feature strengthens enterprise security and supports our customers' needs for a secure environment for conducting business."

In addition to McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1, McAfee® IntruShield® leading-edge network-based intrusion prevention technology received OPSEC certification in September 2002.
