Proficient Networks Achieves Check Point OPSEC Certification for Enterprise Optimized IP-VPN Routing Solution

Proficient's NPE Appliances Integrate with Industry's Most Recognized Security Framework

San Francisco, Calif. - August 4, 2003 - Proficient Networks, Inc, today announced that the Network Policy Engine (NPE) appliance has achieved OPSEC™ (Open Platform for Security) certification from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet. Beginning with v2.2, Proficient's NPE now seamlessly integrates with Check Point's market-leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Next Generation™ software on all NPE appliances, including the new NPE210A for remote VPN sites announced today.

For predictable and reliable delivery of IP-VPN traffic, Proficient's NPE platform offers performance management functionality that delivers the best possible end-to-end application performance by measuring latency, jitter, and packet loss. By moving traffic to the path with the most appropriate characteristics for each application, private line transport quality can be achieved in an IP-VPN. With OPSEC certification of the NPE appliances, Check Point customers can now confidently deploy demanding mission-critical applications across IP-VPNs while achieving frame-relay-like performance with lower costs and improved resiliency at remote VPN sites.

The integration between Check Point's Security Management Architecture (SMARTä) OPSEC Manager and the NPE platform benefits users by streamlining configuration and providing a centralized environment for application monitoring and logging thus easing manageability of the overall solution. SMART OPSEC Manager streamlines the configuration and installation of OPSEC products and provides monitoring capabilities and automatic software distribution of OPSEC Certified products within SMART, thus enabling customers to better manage their overall security environment.

"As a result of achieving OPSEC certification from Check Point, enterprises receive the benefit of an integrated intelligent routing solution for IP-VPN," said Allan Leinwand, co-founder and president of Proficient Networks. "This is a step forward for the enterprise VPN market, and a win for customers looking for superior application performance at an affordable price."

"Choosing the optimal route for VPN traffic can further reduce costs and improve the reliability of Internet connections," said Upesh Patel, director of business development for Check Point Software. "We are pleased that Proficient Networks' NPE route-optimization product has passed OPSEC certification, providing our customers an integrated solution that can be seamlessly deployed with Check Point Next Generation with Application Intelligence. The additional integration with SMART OPSEC Manager will enable our mutual customers to efficiently and effectively manage this solution within their Check Point environment."

About the Network Policy Engine
Delivered on the easy-to-integrate Network Policy Engine (NPE) appliance, Pathfinder software directs routers to avoid end-to-end network congestion, put unused capacity to work, and use cheap bandwidth when it performs well. The NPE is the only product on the market today that simultaneously guarantees the best end-to-end application performance over WAN infrastructure while also intelligently distributing the traffic to minimize overall costs. As a result, organizations can manage critical application performance while deploying an IP VPN, eliminating bandwidth upgrades, or using "burstable" bandwidth contracts. Customers include CTX Mortgage, NetZero (United Online), and Bang Networks.
