Chantry Networks' Beaconworks Achieves Opsec Certification

Brings Market-Leading Secure Virtual Private Networks (VPNS) to Wireless Networks

LAS VEGAS-Networld+Interop-May 11, 2004-Chantry Networks, the leading innovator of routed wireless networking technology for IP-based networking, announced today that its BeaconWorks wireless LAN solution has earned OPSEC (Open Platform for Security) certification from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet. Through OPSEC certification, Chantry Networks' BeaconWorks seamlessly integrates with Check Point's market-leading VPN-1 software, combining the most proven security software with the most innovative wireless LAN technology available today.

"Wireless security is one of the most pressing concerns of users today," said Tom Racca, vice president of marketing, Chantry Networks. "While the promise of mobility is alluring, users need assurances that their corporate information is secure and private. Our certification of BeaconWorks into Check Point's OPSEC alliance gives users peace of mind that their voice and data wireless communications are protected."

"Security is the most critical issue facing enterprises deploying wireless technology in their networks today," said Upesh Patel, director of business development for Check Point Software Technologies. "OPSEC certification for the BeaconWorks wireless LAN solution provides our joint customers with a comprehensive and secure wireless solution that integrates into their existing network security infrastructure."

Chantry Networks is using Check Point's OPSEC interfaces to send security alerts and device status information from BeaconWorks to the Check Point management and logging infrastructure. The creation of a central repository for important system and security events allows administrators to maintain the proper security policy for their entire network. Corrective actions can be taken to prevent malicious connections, including those originating from unauthorized clients or unauthorized access points. Attempts to compromise wireless network devices will result in alerts, which can automatically trigger administrator defined actions. Enterprises using these two solutions can now easily analyze the important security events occurring on both the wired and wireless networks.

"Next to VoWLAN quality of service and simple network management, security is the top consideration for innovative companies that are creating wireless work environments," said Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst with Synergy Research Group. "Chantry Network's OPSEC certification creates a single solution that allows organizations to capture the promise of wireless connectivity, while also enjoying the peace of mind that comes with proven security."

BeaconWorks runs directly on Layer 3, at the IP level, transporting all wireless traffic directly on the same protocol level on which wired network traffic operates. This provides higher levels of service and more forward-thinking technology over switch-based, Layer 2 wireless LANs, which provide adequate technology for basic wireless access, but do not offer the added features required for more sophisticated uses of wireless communications.

Chantry Networks has taken the best-of-breed approach with BeaconWorks. As such, BeaconWorks offers out-of-the-box interoperability with voice communications provider SpectraLink and security, firewall and virtual private network (VPN) provider Check Point Software Technologies. This interoperability enables customers to leverage proven, market-leading technologies within the BeaconWorks architecture.

Demonstrating interoperability at N+I
Today's announcement coincides with multiple interoperability demonstrations at Chantry's booth #2259 at the show. Chantry is showcasing how BeaconWorks manages voice over wireless traffic, provides seamless roaming and superior virtualization.

Additionally, Chantry Networks' CEO, Peter Vicars, will be participating in a WLAN CEO/CTO Roundtable moderated by Craig Mathias on Wednesday, May 12, 3:15pm 4:45pm. The discussion will focus on trends and issues in the wireless LAN industry.
