Pointsec broadens product coverage to include security for new class of enterprise mobile endpoints
With Confidential Data On More Mobile Devices Than Ever, World Leader in Mobile Data Security Introduces Solutions for Smartphones, Removable Media and Linux OS
MOSCONE CENTER, SAN FRANCISCO / BOOTH 1324 – February 9, 2005
As sensitive business and personal information finds its way to an ever-increasing range of mobile innovations, Pointsec, the worldwide de facto standard for mobile device security, announced today it is showcasing a series of new mobile data security solutions at RSA Conference 2005 in San Francisco.
The products—Pointsec Media Encryption, Pointsec for Smartphone, and Pointsec for Linux—extend the world-class data encryption and access control of Pointsec's original technologies for desktop and notebook PC's to the world's fastest-growing new computing, communications, and operating system platforms.
The explosive sales growth in removable storage media over the past year demonstrates the coming ubiquity of these platforms. According to Gartner Dataquest, sales of USB flash memory, a leading type of removable media, will grow from an estimated $1.5 billion in 2004 to $2.9 billion in 2008*. Volumes over this same period will increase from 45.6 to 98.2 million units.
"Users are pushing data out into a growing assortment of unmanaged peripherals. It is essential to protect removable media through encryption, at least equally important to protecting any mobile device," said John Girard, Research Vice President, Gartner Inc.
"Pointsec is committed to ensuring the integrity of mobile data wherever it goes," said Peter Larsson, CEO, Pointsec Mobile Technologies. "These latest products allow enterprises to stay ahead of the game so that as new platforms are adopted, proprietary or confidential information stays secure."
Pointsec's newest products incorporate Pointsec's transparent file encryption which imposes no performance penalty on users. Products include:
- Pointsec® for Smartphone—Protects information including email, text messages and images stored on Windows® Mobile-based smartphones. Includes Pointsec's unique PicturePIN® picture-based information access control;
- Pointsec® Media Encryption—Provides strong encryption on all removable media including removable hard disks, USB Flash memory cards and floppy disks;
- Pointsec® for Linux—The world's only product to provide complete hard disk encryption for Linux laptop and desktop PCs (available early 2005).
Pointsec is committed to delivering products that comply with the highest possible international security standards. By meeting the U.S. Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS), the latest security requirements from U.S. government agencies are fulfilled. Pointsec is also the only company in this sector to receive Common Criteria certification to EAL4 for Pointsec® for PC, the company's flagship security product.
"Mobility significantly boosts the employee productivity and the capabilities of the real-time enterprise, but it also creates new security and management challenges," said Stephen Drake, program manager for IDC's Mobile Infrastructure Software service. "Organizations must begin to address both mobile security and mobile device management technologies such as data protection on mobile devices to safeguard confidential information from getting into wrong hands via loss or theft of a mobile device."
Pointsec's newest products join its existing products which include Pointsec for PC, Pointsec® for Pocket PC, Pointsec® for Palm OS and Pointsec for Symbian OS.
