UK Cabinet Office presents Pointsec with first government quality mark award for mobile security product
London, UK – April 26, 2006 - Pointsec Mobile Technologies, the global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise security software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smartphones, has today received the Governments new quality mark award for their flagship product - Pointsec for PC. The CSIA Claims Tested (CCT) Mark – a new government quality mark initiative for information security products and services, sets Pointsec above its competitors as having the first mobile security product to receive the CCT Mark.
The award was announced by the Head of the Central Sponsor for Information Assurance (CSIA), Steve Marsh, speaking at Infosecurity Europe 2006. This award has been presented to companies that pass stringent testing and evaluation to their products and gives it the seal of approval so that Government bodies, Police and other local authorities feel confident that the product has reached a certain level of security.
Marsh said "Strong encryption and access control is of particular interest to the public sector especially as more and more government employees now work on the move. We are extremely pleased that Pointsec has achieved the award which will help give assurance to the public sector that the information security products and services they use make the grade for the government's quality mark."
Martin Allen – Pointsec's UK Managing Director said "This latest accreditation which fits nicely alongside other certifications that Pointsec now has such as Common Criteria, Fips and BITS, meets the government requirements for purchasing security products and solutions. It's important as it provides independent testing that shows it does what it says on the tin!"
The purpose of the CCT Mark Scheme is to provide accredited independent testing on off-the-shelf products and services and thus give the wider public sector a basic level of assurance for the information security products and services they use.
Although primarily aimed at IT and information security managers across the wider public sector, it will also provide an invaluable guide to small and medium-businesses wanting to know that their purchasing meets preferred standards.
The Scheme was officially launched in September 2005 by Jim Murphy, Cabinet Office Minister with responsibility for e-Government.
Speaking about today's award Murphy said "The CCT Mark Scheme is crucial in gaining confidence as it provides a choice of assured products to help us achieve more joined-up government and more secure transactions between government and the general public. Therefore I would like to congratulate Pointsec and encourage others to strive towards achieving this government quality mark."
