Check Point Project Gaia
Delivering the Best of SecurePlatform and IPSO

Overview
In April 2009, Check Point completed the acquisition of the Nokia Security Appliance Business. As part of the integration with Nokia, Check Point now offers customers a full range of security gateways including the new integrated IP Appliances. Offered as single SKU appliances, they are delivered and supported by Check Point and come integrated with the latest Check Point Software.
With the introduction of the new integrated IP Appliance series, Check Point also began supporting two separate proprietary platforms. These include the SecurePlatform and IPSO operating systems (OS). In order to simplify and streamline administration—and maximize performance and security—Check Point has begun Project Gaia to unify these two market-leading operating systems and deliver a single, consistent network security OS.
Project Gaia will provide:
- A single, unified network security OS that leverages the best of both platforms to increase operational efficiency and reduce complexity
- A single user interface (UI) for simplified administration, enhanced ease-of-use and robust device management.
- A single OS to deliver unrivaled security integration, with comprehensive support of over twenty Software Blades
Gaia will be delivered in a phased approach providing functionality over time.
About Check Point SecurePlatform
SecurePlatform combines the simplicity and built-in security of an appliance with the flexibility of an open server. With SecurePlatform, customers can turn an Intel- or AMD-based open server into a pre-hardened security appliance in less than 5 minutes. SecurePlatform is also the foundation of Check Point UTM-1, Power-1, Smart-1, VSX-1, IPS-1 and Connectra appliances.
About Check Point IPSO
At the core of the Check Point IP Appliance Series is IPSO, a purpose-built secure operating system. With advanced networking, monitoring and diagnostics features, Check Point IPSO continues to meet customer requirements with best-in-class extensible security.
The goal of Project Gaia is to combine the best of both operating systems while adding additional functionality. This unified security operating system will support all actively sold appliance products and currently supported open servers and hypervisors (VMware) for virtual networks, as well as supporting future hardware designs. The GAIA Early Availability Program have been started and will be expanded during Q1 2011.
Features & Benefits
Project Gaia delivers a transition from existing SecurePlatform and IPSO deployments to an advanced and integrated operating system platform. Combining the best technologies of both systems, Project Gaia provides a superset of the SecurePlatform and IPSO operating systems across the full portfolio for Check Point security gateways, open servers and virtualized environments.
As Check Point’s next, unified and hardened network security OS, Gaia is ready for the next generation of internet protocols—delivering more ease-of-administration, operational efficiencies and advanced management for the most challenging deployments.
