Configuring the Terminal Server

To configure the terminal server

  1. Click Network in the main menu, and click the Ports tab.

    The Ports page appears.

  2. Next to the Serial port, click Edit.

    The Port Setup page appears.

  3. In the Assign to drop-down list, select Terminal Server.

    Additional fields appear.

  4. Complete the fields using the information in the following table.
  5. Click Apply.

Terminal Server Fields

Port Speed

Select the Serial port's speed (in bits per second).

The Serial port's speed must match that of the attached dialup modem.

The default value is 57600.

Flow Control

Select the method of flow control supported by the attached device:

  • RTS/CTS. Hardware-based flow control, using the Serial port's RTS/CTS signal lines.
  • XON/XOFF. Software-based flow control, using XON/XOFF characters.

TCP Port

Type the TCP port that the terminal server should use for incoming and outgoing connections between the Serial port and the Internet.

Operation Mode

Select the terminal server's operation mode.
If Active is selected, the Primary Server and Secondary Server fields appear.

Primary Server

Type the IP address or DNS name of the primary Telnet server to which the terminal server should connect, or click This Computer to specify your computer.

Secondary Server

Type the IP address or DNS name of the secondary Telnet server to which the terminal server should connect when the primary server is not available, or click This Computer to specify your computer.
