Who is Vulnerable? EMC NetWorker Prior to 7.6.3 SP1 build 851
Vulnerability Description A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in EMC NetWorker.
Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerability is due to improper boundary check when processing crafted RPC requests in the nsrindexd.exe. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted RPC message to the target host. Successful exploitation would allow attackers to crash the application or execute arbitrary code on the target.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of specially crafted RPC messages to the target host.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your product to the latest update. For information on how to update , go to SBP-2006-05, Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the EMC NetWorker nsrindexd.exe Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
