Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description The Print Spooler service is a system service that manages print job spools to the printer. A vulnerability was detected in the Print Spooler service for several Microsoft Windows operating systems that can allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Print Spooler Service packet.

Protection Overview

By enabling the protection, IPS will block the specific vulnerable operation in the SPOOLSS MS-RPC interface over Common Internet File Sharing (CIFS) protocol.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized access attempts without blocking them.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows Print Spooler Service Buffer Overflow (MS05-043) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
