Protection Overview

This protection will block the malformed NFS requests, as well as similar requests for other RPC over TCP services.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized traffic without blocking it.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update.For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the FreeBSD nfsd NFS Mount Request Denial of Service protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.

This protection's log will contain the following information:SmartView Tracker will display the following log entries:.

Attack Name:  Malformed SUN-RPC over TCP packet.
Attack Information:  Illegal Mount Request. Users of VPN-1 NG with Application Intelligence R55 will identify rule number 99249 appearing in the SmartView Tracker.
