Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows SNMP Service.The service fails to properly handle malformed 'GetBulkRequest' SNMP messages.An attacker could exploit this vulnerability via a specially crafted SNMP message.Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to create a denial of service condition or execute arbitrary code on an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the malformed SNMP GetBulk Requests.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized traffic without blocking it.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows SNMP Service GetBulk Memory Corruption (MS06-074) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  SNMP Protection Violation.
