Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Win32 API (application programming interface) provides 32-bit services used by all Windows-based applications.A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in the Microsoft Windows implementation of Win32 API.Remote attacker could exploit this issue by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document or open a malicious web page.Successful exploitation could result in remote code execution on the target system once the malicious page is loaded.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malicious use of Win32 API via Internet Explorer.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized traffic without blocking it.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows Win32 API Code Execution (MS07-035) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
