Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Active Directory provides central authentication and authorization services for Windows-based systems. Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) is a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory service that runs as a user service.A denial of service vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Active Directory. Successful exploitation of this issue could create a denial of service condition, causing the system to become non-responsive.The vulnerability is due to an error in the LDAP service that fails to sufficiently validate specially crafted LDAP requests.A remote attacker may trigger this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted LDAP packet to the ADAM or an Active Directory server.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block malformed LDAP requests.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update.For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R76 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Active Directory LDAP Request Denial of Service (MS08-035) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
