Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Internet Explorer is the most widely used Internet browser. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The vulnerability is due to an error in Internet Explorer that fails to properly validate parameters made during a method call in the browser. An attacker can trigger this flaw by convincing a user to view a specially crafted HTML document. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer ActiveX Navigate Handling Code Execution (MS08-073) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
