Vulnerability Description | Novell eDirectory is a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server intended for use as a part of an identity management solution. The product is made available for multiple platforms including NetWare, Unix-like systems, and Windows. The product includes a web server component that is used for remote administration. The web server listens on port 8008/TCP for HTTP requests and on 8010/TCP for HTTPS requests. A denial of service vulnerability exists in Novell eDirectory server. The flaw is caused by insufficient filtering of HTTP requests that use reserved MS-DOS device names. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to terminate the Novell eDirectory service. A successful attack exploiting this vulnerability will cause the Novell eDirectory Server process to terminate. All services provided by the vulnerable server, including the LDAP service, will become unavailable until the server is restarted manually. Since the LDAP service is essential for other Novell products to function, the denial-of-service condition can affect services provided by other hosts on the network. |
