Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Apple QuickTime is a multimedia player that supports a wide range of media formats. The software supports parsing and displaying picture files as well as numerous video formats. QuickTime is capable of processing Apple QuickTime movie file (MOV), which is a proprietary format created by Apple Computer, Inc. An MOV file usually has the file extension ".mov". There exists a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Apple QuickTime. The flaw is caused by improper parsing of forged size fields in the file. In an attack case where code injection is not successful, the vulnerable Quicktime application processing the malicious MOV file will terminate abnormally. In a more sophisticated attack, where code injection is successful, the behaviour of the target is entirely dependent on the intended function of the injected code. The code in such a case would execute within the security context of the current user.
