Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft Excel is a popular spreadsheet application. A remote code execution vulnerability has been identified in the Microsoft Excel. The vulnerability is due to a memory corruption error in Microsoft Excel when loading Excel records. An attacker can exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system via a specially crafted Excel file.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed Excel files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update.For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R70 / R71

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Excel TXO and OBJ Records Parsing Memory Corruption (MS08-074) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.

This protection's log will contain the following information:.
