Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description WordPress is an opensource php-based blog publishing platform. It offers several features such as multi-author editing capability, automatic formatting of text and an architecture which supports plugins to further extend its functionality. There exists a cross-site script insertion vulnerability in WordPress. The vulnerability is due to lack of sanitization for data supplied in the HTTP Host header. Remote attackers can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in the users' browser sessions in the context of the vulnerable web site. A successful attack will inject malicious HTML or script code in the target server RSS feed. If the URL in the RSS feed is opened on a client's browser, the arbitrary HTML and script code would be executed in the user's browser session, in the security context of the affected Web site.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the WordPress RSS feed Generator self_link HTTP_HOST Cross-Site Scripting protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
