Vulnerability Description Multiple remote code execution vulnerabilities have been reported in the way Microsoft Windows Embedded OpenType (EOT) font technology parses data records and name tables in specially crafted embedded fonts. Embedded OpenType (EOT) fonts are a compact form of fonts designed for use on web pages. A remote attacker can exploit these vulnerabilities via a specially crafted EOT file. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Vulnerability DetailsThe vulnerabilities are due to the way the Microsoft Windows EOT component parses name tables within specially crafted files and content containing embedded fonts. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by creating a file that contains a specially crafted EOT font embedded in the document and convincing the user to open or preview the file. Successful exploitation of this issue allows execution of arbitrary code once the malformed file is being opened or previewed on an affected system.
