Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description HP OpenView product consists of a suite of network and system management software applications developed by HP. It includes several optional modules and components, such as OpenView Quality Manager, OpenView Performance Insight, OpenView Network Node Manager, etc. A stack buffer overflow exists in the HP OpenView Network Node Manager (NNM) CGI certain program. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error when processing a certain variable sent in a crafted HTTP request. A remote unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to a target server, potentially causing arbitrary code to be injected and executed in the security context of the Internet Guest Account user. In an attack scenario, where arbitrary code is injected and executed on the target machine, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intention of the malicious code.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the HP OpenView Network Node Manager nnmRptConfig.exe Template Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
