Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Adobe Reader and Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's core technology, the Portable Document Format (PDF). A memory corruption vulnerability has been reported in the way Adobe Reader and Acrobat handle specially crafted PDF files. The vulnerability is due to the way Adobe Reader handles malformed PDF files. A remote attacker could trigger this issue via a maliciously crafted PDF file that contains invalid Field Flags values. Successful exploitation will create a denial of service condition, causing the application to become non-responsive, and may allow execution of arbitrary code once a malicious PDF file is loaded on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed PDF files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Adobe Reader Invalid Field Flags Values Memory Corruption (APSB11-03) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Adobe Reader Violation.
