Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Anti-virus products provide protection against dangerous content such as viruses, trojans, worms and other destructive programs. A non-privileged code execution vulnerability has been reported in the way multiple anti-virus products scan ZIP archive files. The vulnerability is due to ANSI escape sequences in the filenames of the compressed files. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability through the use of ANSI escape sequences. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could cause scan bypass or command execution on the affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block maliciously crafted ZIP archive files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Multiple Vendor Malformed ZIP Archive Anti-virus Detection Bypass protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Security Products Enforcement Violation.
