Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description An elevation of privilege vulnerability has been reported in Apple PDF Viewer. The vulnerability is due to an error in the PDF Viewer when handling PDF files that contain TrueType font (TTF), early reported when using Apple mobile devices iPhone/iPad/iPod. A remote attacker could trigger this flaw via a specially crafted PDF file. Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code once a malicious PDF file is loaded on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed PDF files over HTTP.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Apple PDF Viewer TTF Embedded Jailbreak Code Execution protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
