Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Amaya web browser. Amaya is an open source web authoring and browsing tool which is mainly used as a test bed for web standards. The vulnerability is due to an error in the way the browser parses HTML files with specially crafted BDO tags. A remote attacker could trigger this vulnerability by enticing an unsuspecting victim to open a crafted link. Successful exploitation may lead to a buffer overflow, allowing an attacker to execute code on the affected system

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to transfer such malicious HTML files.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Amaya Browser BDO Tag Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
