Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Windows Authenticode Signature Verification function used for portable executable (PE) files. The vulnerability is due to an error in the way the Authenticode Signature Verification function validates the file digest of a specially crafted PE file. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by enticing a user to run or install a specially crafted, signed PE file. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to take complete control of an affected system.

IPS will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows Signature Validation Remote Code Execution (MS12-024) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
