Vulnerability Description A vulnerability exists when Internet Explorer attempts to access an object that has been deleted. An attacker who successfully exploited these vulnerabilities could gain the same user rights as the current user. Remote code execution vulnerabilities exist in the way that Internet Explorer accesses an object in memory that has been deleted. An attacker could host a specially crafted website that is designed to exploit these vulnerability through Internet Explorer and then convince a user to view the website. The attacker could also take advantage of compromised websites and websites that accept or host user-provided content or advertisements.

Protection Overview

IPS will detect and block specially crafted webpage using Internet Explorer.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer CMarkupBehaviorContext Use After Free (MS13-021) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Web Client Enforcement Violation.
