Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that the Windows Graphics Device Interface (GDI) processes specially crafted image files. The vulnerability is caused by a memory corruption when the Windows Graphics Device Interface improperly processes a specially crafted image contained in a Windows Write (.wri) file. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by enticing a victim to open a specially crafted Windows Write file. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Graphics Device Interface Integer Overflow (MS13-089) - ver 2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
