Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description An integer overflow vulnerability exists in Microsoft Windows GDI+. The vulnerability is due to lack of input validation when Microsoft Windows GDI+ handles PNG files. A remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability by enticing the target to open a specially crafted PNG file. Successful exploitation would allow for arbitrary code injection and execution in the security context of the logged in user. In such a case, the behavior of the target is dependent on the intention of the malicious code. In the case where code execution is not successful, the application may terminate abnormally.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Windows GDIplus PNG Chunk Processing Integer Overflow (MS09-062) - Ver2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
