Who is Vulnerable? MS-SQL Servers
Vulnerability Description The SQL Server Resolution Protocol (MC-SQLR) is an application-layer request/response protocol that facilitates connectivity to a database server. The MC-SQLR server may be vulnerable to reflected DDoS attacks, due to its inability to handle a large number of incoming requests within a short period of time. Remote attackers may exploit this issue by rapidly sending a large number of requests to the server via other servers. Successful exploitation may cause the server process to terminate, resulting in a denial of service condition.

Protection Overview

this protection will detect and block multiple requests sent to the server via other servers over a short period of time.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
