Vulnerability Description Internet Explorer (IE) is a popular web browser developed by Microsoft corporation. A buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The vulnerability is in the way Microsoft Internet Explorer parses certain parameters of an IFRAME tag. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to create a denial of service condition or to execute arbitrary code in the context of the currently logged in user. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Internet Explorer Malformed IFRAME Buffer Overflow - ver 2 protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
