Who is Vulnerable? VMware vCenter Server (7.x before 7.0 U1c, 6.7 before 6.7 U3l and 6.5 before 6.5 U3n) and VMware Cloud Foundation (4.x before 4.2 and 3.x before 3.10.1.2)
Vulnerability Description A remote code execution vulnerability exists in VMware vSpehre Client. The vulnerability is due to improper validation of paths in an uploaded tarball. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request to the target server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the VMware vSphere Client Remote Code Execution (CVE-2021-21972) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
