Check Point Enterprise Browser vs. Remote Browser Isolation (RBI)
Remote Browser Isolation (RBI) solutions emerged in the 2010s in response to the increasing threat of web-borne attacks. They were designed to protect users by isolating browser activity on remote servers. The user’s web session runs inside a virtual browser instance hosted in a remote data center or cloud container. Instead of executing web code locally, the remote browser processes everything in isolation and transmits a “stream” to the user’s endpoint.
This “air gap” approach effectively eliminated drive-by downloads and zero-day exploits, initially making it an attractive solution. However, issues related to latency, rendering, and compatibility have prompted IT teams to find a better option.
Check Point Enterprise Browser takes a modern, user-centric approach to secure browsing by delivering enterprise-grade controls and visibility directly within the browser. Instead of relying on a remote environment to process code and stream content to the end user, execution happens locally within a lightweight, secure browser.
The Enterprise Browser creates an isolated, fully controlled environment that effectively turns unmanaged devices into managed ones. BYOD users and contractors can securely access corporate resources through a familiar, high-performance browser – without the latency or usability issues of RBI – while administrators employ advanced controls like session recording, copy/paste restriction, watermarking, and more.

CHECK POINT ENTERPRISE BROWSER VS. REMOTE BROWSER ISOLATION (RBI)
Head-to-head The comparison below outlines the key differences between Check Point Enterprise Browser and RBI.
Category Check Point Enterprise Browser Remote Browser Isolation (RBI)
Core Technology Local execution with real-time controls Streams web content from a remote environment
User Experience Native browser experience; no performance degradation Often degraded – introduces latency, rendering issues, and poor compatibility
Security Approach Real-time threat prevention, DLP, and posture-based controls at the browser layer
Remote isolation – malware runs remotely, endpoint never interacts directly
Web Compatibility Full compatibility with all web applications Issues with modern apps due to rendering on a remote host
Use Case Fit Broad enterprise use: third-party access, BYOD, SaaS DLP, AI usage monitoring
Niche scenarios like threat research or malware testing
Data Protection Advanced DLP: screen capture prevention, copy/paste control, masking, watermarking Basic protection via isolation
Visibility & Auditing Full session recording, granular audit logs, productivity tracking Limited auditing capability
Extension Management Native visibility, risk scoring, and enforcement of browser extensions Not a focus
Infrastructure Requirements
Lightweight: Operates on existing infrastructure or can be deployed on-prem
Heavy: Requires substantial remote hosting and bandwidth
Deployment Options Cloud or on-prem deployment Cloud-hosted
Cost Model More cost-effective; simpler infrastructure footprint Higher due to backend infrastructure
Zero Trust Enforcement Full Zero Trust controls: posture checks, access policies, session enforcement Partially supports – based on URL classification
Learn More Check Point Enterprise Browser offers a superior alternative to remote browser isolation. It creates a Zero Trust browsing environment for unmanaged devices that empowers businesses to embrace BYOD and third-party access without compromising security.
