E-Plus Deploys Check Point FireWall-1 GX to Secure GPRS Networks
German Cellular Operator Uses Best-of-Breed Security Solution to Protect Corporate and Consumer GPRS Networks
Hallbergmoos, October 3, 2003 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced that E-Plus GmbH, a German mobile operator, has deployed Check Point FireWall-1® GX to offer its more than 7.8 million customers the highest possible level of security and up-time in its cellular networks. FireWall-1 GX delivers the latest state-of-the-art security to prevent increasingly common security threats such as overbilling, denial of service (DoS) attacks and network flooding.
Due to the increasing convergence between wireless and IP networks, network administrators face an exponential onslaught of malicious and fraudulent attacks that have been traditionally confined to the world of wire line data and thus require intelligent security. FireWall-1 GX intelligently protects against these attacks by detecting when a connection has been opened and terminated, drastically reducing the probability of overbilling attacks, which take advantage of open connections by flooding the network with unwanted traffic, and other common security attacks such as DNS- or IP-spoofing.
E-Plus carried out an extensive analysis of the potential risks that the company faced. Gerald Mohs, Department head for System and Application Management at E-Plus, said, "Our view was that the GPRS Tunnelling Protocol only offered a restrictive level of security. Because we wanted to be as sure as possible that we could fend off any attack on our networks, we chose to implement Check Point FireWall-1 GX. We are now secure from attacks from both outside and inside the GPRS network."
Furthermore, E-Plus chose FireWall-1 GX because it could be administered using the company's existing Check Point SMART management interface. Mohs and his team can therefore manage the administration quickly and cost effectively.
"We are delighted that E-Plus has used Check Point products to develop a complete security architecture for GPRS that can address the GTP and IP requirements under one integrated management system," said David Aminzade, EMEA Sales Manager, Wireless and Broadband, Check Point Software Technologies. "E-Plus has staked out a leadership position by protecting their end-users with Check Point FireWall-1 GX. At present, E-Plus is the first cellular operator serving the German market to implement this complete security solution."
