Secure Computing SmartFilter Web Filtering Software Receives OPSEC Certification from Check Point

SmartFilter Provides On-Box Web Filtering for Check Point's Next Generation Solution

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 12, 2003 - Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR), the experts in protecting the most important networks in the world, today announced that its SmartFilter® Web filtering software has achieved OPSEC™ (Open Platform for Security) certification from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP). Through OPSEC certification, SmartFilter seamlessly integrates with Check Point's VPN-1®/FireWall-1® Next Generation (NG) with Application Intelligence™ solution, providing customers with cost-effective, On-Box™ Web filtering that's easy to install and manage.

The implementation of SmartFilter for VPN-1/FireWall-1 offers robust Web filtering capabilities from time-of-day and file extension filtering to granular custom filtering with pattern matching. To more tightly integrate SmartFilter with VPN-1/FireWall-1, Secure Computing incorporated additional OPSEC interfaces, such as Smart OPSEC Manager, that help to further simplify administration and installation. Administrators can now view the status of the SmartFilter application through Check Point's world-class management architecture. Additionally, with SmartFilter's central management capabilities, customers who have implemented SmartFilter on various platforms can manage all SmartFilter installations from the SmartFilter administration console, saving administrative time and money.

"To ensure employees use the Web safely and productively, implementation of a Web filtering solution is critical," said Upesh Patel, director of business development for Check Point Software. "OPSEC Certification allows customers to seamlessly deploy the OPSEC certified SmartFilter Web filtering solution with Check Point NG with Application Intelligence, while the additional integration with Smart OPSEC Manager will further enhance our mutual customers experience in managing an enterprise security deployment."

SmartFilter enables organizations to build and enforce sophisticated Web-usage policies. Users can be denied access to specific Web sites, or coached within their browser session about acceptable use standards. SmartFilter's international Control List continuously categorizes millions of Web sites into content groups, including pornography, gambling, and MP3. The integrated Cyfin® Reporter performs detailed analysis on all Web surfing activity. Numerous global organizations have realized immediate ROI resulting from increased productivity and recaptured network bandwidth.

"SmartFilter's On-Box architecture allows us to easily integrate with a wide variety of platforms to give customers flexibility as they implement and expand their networks," said Mike Gallagher, senior vice president of product development at Secure Computing. "Check Point's OPSEC certification ensures that SmartFilter works seamlessly with Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1 Next Generation, giving our customers another option for cost-effectively implementing industry-leading Web filtering software."
