Check Point Software Announces Support for Secure Use of Internet Phone
Redwood City, CA —
Check Point Software Technologies, Inc., the market share leader in network security software, today announced that Check Point FireWall-1 is the first firewall to provide integrated, secure support for Internet Phone and Internet Phone Telephony Gateway offered by VocalTec, Ltd. Until now, users of Internet Phone behind firewalls could not take advantage of this Internet audio product.
Today's announcement adds to Check Point's existing integrated support for Progressive Networks' RealAudio. Support for Internet Phone is easily defined as a service in the FireWall-1 graphical user interface, enabling integrated, secure support for Internet Phone in current FireWall-1 installations.
"We are pleased to be the first network security vendor to be able to securely support Internet Phone, an important emerging application on the Internet," said Dr. Deborah Triant, CEO and president of Check Point Software Technologies, Inc. "Because FireWall-1's architecture can secure sessionless protocols, which are commonly used for audio and video applications, FireWall-1 enables companies and individuals who want to use these cutting-edge technologies to do so safely and securely."
"Support for firewalls and other elements of corporate
computing infrastructure is essential for broad deployment of
Internet Phone on business desktops," said Dr. Elon Ganor,
chairman and CEO of VocalTec. "Adding Check Point Software
as one of our strategic allies and supporting the leading firewall
solution in the market is important for VocalTec and for our
customers. FireWall-1 support becomes a key component of business
communications especially when companies integrate their standard
phone services with real-time Internet voice communications."
FireWall-1's Unique Support For Internet Audio and Video
The extensible architecture of FireWall-1 has made it the industry
leader in firewall solutions by providing secure support for
the most applications. The product is also designed to allow
administrators to easily customize the firewall to incorporate
new applications. Most Internet audio and video technology is
based on both TCP and UDP-based protocols, making it difficult
or impossible for most firewalls to support these technologies
securely, because their architectures cannot support UDP-based
protocols. FireWall-1's technology makes it the only firewall
product on the market today that can handle both TCP and UDP-based
applications and services securely.
About FireWall-1
As the first shrinkwrapped firewall package, and the first
to employ an easy-to-use graphical user interface, FireWall-1
is consistently recognized by trade publications and users for
its usability, flexibility, extensibility and high performance.
With more than 5,000 installations worldwide as of March 1996,
FireWall-1 is more widely-tested in the field than any other
network security solution.
Based on Check Point's unique, patent-pending "stateful
inspection" architecture, the product is the most flexible,
easy-to-install, configure, and maintain firewall product available.
More than 100 applications, services and protocols are supported
out-of-the-box, and administrators can easily customize the
firewall to incorporate new and in-house applications. FireWall-1
allows the enterprise's customized security policy to be created,
monitored, and maintained from a single workstation, and enables
network managers to configure and manage multiple firewalls
throughout the enterprise from one, centralized management station.
The product is also sold by SunSoft, Inc. as Solstice FireWall-1.
