Check Point First to Provide Application Level Protection for IPv6 Networks
Independent Next-Generation Internet Tests Demonstrate IPv6 Readiness; Application Intelligence Secures Emerging Protocol
DURHAM, N.H., Moonv6 Phase 2 Test Event, March 22, 2004 - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced it is enhancing support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the emerging next generation Internet protocol. Check Point successfully demonstrated Application Intelligence technology during the second phase of the "Moonv6" next-generation Internet testing project. The IPv6 security abilities of Next Generation with Application Intelligence have been tested and verified using real-world test scenarios by NetworkTester, Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: A), the independent test vendor supporting the event.
"Before mass adoption of IPv6 begins, service providers and enterprise customers will need a comprehensive security solution that protects applications using IPv6," said Gonen Fink, vice president of Solutions & Strategy for Check Point Software. "By adding support for Application Intelligence over IPv6, Check Point will offer customers a comprehensive security solution to enable a smooth and secure migration to IPv6. This further demonstrates that Check Point continues to lead the Internet security industry in technological innovation."
Application Level Protection for IPv6
Networks
Check Point Next Generation with Application Intelligence is the
industry's first comprehensive, integrated security solution for
defeating and preventing both network and application level attacks.
Today, service providers and enterprise customers protect their
application-servers using IPv4 with Check Point's Stateful Inspection
and Application Intelligence technologies.
Check Point's access control and Application Intelligence security capabilities were successfully tested and verified for IPv6 support by third-party, independent testing vendor Agilent Technologies. Echoing the validation of Application Intelligence with IPv6, Major Roswell Dixon from the Joint Interoperability Test Command said, "I am very impressed by FireWall-1's new Application Intelligence abilities for IPv6. Application level security for IPv6 networks will play a critical role in the Department of Defense's transition to IPv6 in the years to come."
Dynamic Routing On IPv6
Check Point and OPSEC partner, NextHop Technologies®, demonstrated
interoperability of Check Point's FireWall-1 with NextHop's GateD®
dynamic routing over the IPv6 protocols, OSPF and BGP. Seamless
interoperation between Check Point FireWall-1 and NextHop's GateD
IPv6 routing protocols allows for easier management of large-scale
networks. This best-of-breed deployment obtains routing information
and identifies optimal traffic routes within the network using the
OSPF and BGP protocols.
Largest Multi-vendor IPv6 Network: Moonv6
Moonv6 is a nationwide IPv6 test-bed backed by the North American
IPv6 Task Force, Internet2, the U.S. Defense Department, the UNH-IOL
and major networking, testing and communications companies. Check
Point products were provided to validate the reliability and interoperability
of IPv6 networking hardware and software under operative conditions.
The testing addressed aspects of the IPv6 protocol key to widespread
deployment of the new technology, including network routing protocols,
applications, security and transition mechanisms.
"The NAv6TF vision for the development of Moonv6 is to eventually create a Native IPv6 backbone peering that will, in time, permit production services as new applications develop and entice markets to come to the Moonv6 evolution," said Jim Bound, chair of the North American IPv6 Task Force (NAv6TF) and chair of the IPv6 Forum Technical Directorate.
About Moonv6
The Moonv6 project is a collaborative effort between the North American
IPv6 Task Force, (NAv6TF), the University of New Hampshire InterOperability
Laboratory (UNH-IOL), Internet2, the Joint Interoperability Testing
Command (JITC) and various other U.S. Defense Department agencies.
Taking place across the U.S. at multiple locations, the Moonv6 project
represents the most aggressive collaborative IPv6 interoperability
and application demonstration event in the North American market
to date. For more information, visit the organization's Web site
