Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Microsoft's Client Service for Netware provides connectivity infrastructure for Novel Netware systems.A vulnerability was detected in the Client Service for NetWare service for several Microsoft Windows operating systems that can allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Client Service for NetWare packet.

Protection Overview

By enabling the protection, IPS will block the specific vulnerable operation in Client Service for NetWare MS-RPC interface over Common Internet File Sharing (CIFS) protocol.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized access attempts without blocking them.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update.For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft NetWare Client Service Crafted Message Code Execution (MS05-046) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all modules.
